APS Therapy was invented in the early nineties in South Africa. The idea of APS Therapy was started over an article in a medical magazine which wrote about the significance of the bodies own Action Potential signal. This article explained that the action potential contolles numerous body processes. This nerve impulse should be able to reduce pain and even stop pain. This article also looked ahead towards the possibility to simulate this action potential and that men would be able to oppose the effects of pain in the human body.

This article was the cause for Action Potential Simulation, or in short APS. Short after the development of the famous APS machine was started. It took a while before the first prototype was built from one of the 10 designs. The first prototype was used to treat a person who's both elbows were shattered during a plane crash. The pain relief that was caused by the APS machine was phenomenally.

Quick after that more tests were carried out and more machines were built. Because of that APS didn't stay unnoticed and more people showed their interest in the machine. Also Prof. Chrstiaan Barnard (†). From that moment on APS made a big leap into publicity. Prof. Barnard, who was famous as a pioneer in surgery performed the first succesfull heart transplant. He became more interested in the machine because of his own arthritis problem. Due to the arthritis in his shoulder and neck he was not able to perform surgery anymore.

Because Prof. Barnard got involved with APS Therapy ans started to treat himself he noticed a tremendous improvement which made it possible for him to continue surgery for a longer period of time.
Then in 1993 the first batch of APS machines was produced and the first from this batch was donated to an American doctor. The first machine ever sold went to a physiotherapist in Pretoria, South Africa.

The first batch was limited in number because first it had to be proven that the machine met up with the applicable standards. Therefore numerous tests had to be carried out by all kind of authorities in both technical as clinical field.

First the application for the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was filed. First it had to be proven that the machine complied to the IEC standards and next tot that the effectivity had to be proven with clinical researches. 16 Months later APS received the FDA label. After the FDA more international standards followed.

Some years later in 1998 APS also carried the CE label and the european trading could start. In this year the APS machine was introduced to the “International Invention Show” te Geneve in the devision “Medical Equipment”, where the machine was evaluated as a major leap in the medical field and won the gold medal for the best medical invention presented that year.

In the mean time APS Therapy is a Dutch company and are the machines manufactured in the Netherlands according to the european standards. This resulted in even more recognition and this move also gave a huge impulse in even the South African market which was able to develop further due to chanelling the manpower into support of APS Therapy in South Africa.
